Professional Experience

Ted is the National Director of Knowledge Management services at the firm where he combines his experience as a practicing lawyer and law librarian to provide cost effective research and knowledge management services to the firm's lawyers and clients. In addition to overseeing the firm's extensive print and online library, Ted is responsible for helping the firm leverage our collective strength through training lawyers and student and by organizing the firm's knowledge content in the form of research, transaction opinions, and precedents for effective use by our lawyers. Prior to joining the firm in 2006, Ted was a law librarian and adjunct professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto.

Ted is the author of Legal Research and Writing, 3d ed (Toronto: Irwin Law) and The Law of Independent Legal Advice (Toronto: Carswell, 2000). Ted is a member of both the BC and Ontario law societies and has a Master of Laws and a Master of Information Studies from the University of Toronto.

In addition to his work in the information field, Ted also practiced law in a variety of settings, including as a research lawyer, a litigator, and as in-house counsel in Japan to a large Japanese computer manufacturer. Ted is a frequent speaker at many seminars on technology and legal research and regularly contributes articles to a variety of law-related publications. He has also served as a member of the International Development Committee of the Canadian Bar Association.
