copyright

We advise on the protection of copyrightable works and, where advisable, effect copyright registrations in Canada and arrange for registrations throughout the world. Our commercial copyright clients include domestic and international communications and telecommunications operations, music recording labels and artists, music publishers, film and television production companies and financing parties, choreographers, book publishers, software and multimedia firms, and advertising and marketing agencies, as well as our corporate clients in all areas of business. We counsel them on their needs for copyright clearance (including what constitutes unlawful use of copyrighted property by third parties) and help obtain those clearances from the copyright owners, copyright collectives and other applicable agencies. In addition, McMillan copyright lawyers provide guidance on the ownership of copyright works, including those created by employees and commissioned from independent contractors and third-party agents, and prepare and advise on assignments licences and other agreements relating to copyright.
