Professional Experience

Ponora Ang is a member of McMillan's Litigation Group. He has been involved in numerous complex cases in various levels of Québec Courts, some of which have attracted the attention of the Canadian press.

Before joining the firm, Ponora was a member of a commercial litigation boutique firm and worked in the federal government for several ministers as a student.

In 2009, Ponora participated in an intensive week-long seminar on Advanced Litigation Techniques offered by the Quebec bar. Ponora also teaches at the Faculty of Law of the University of Montreal at the program of Master of Laws in Business Law in a Global Context (LL.M.).

Ponora's practice involves all aspects of commercial litigation with regards to the banking, securities enforcement, bankruptcy and insolvency, corporate and construction sectors as well as directors' liability. His practice also focuses on the following particular areas of litigation:

product liability
Ponora represents several manufacturers and distributors defending product liability lawsuits. He has conducted and settled many lawsuits for manufacturers in the automobile industry.  He also defends major manufacturers and distributors in the medical field.  Currently, Ponora is working with McMillan partner, Céline Tessier, on defending several lawsuits relating to product liability in the area of security and fire systems.

real estate
Ponora represented commercial property owners in lawsuits raising various legal issues. He has conducted several lawsuits regarding property management, breach of contracts and title contestation.

banking and corporate
Ponora has represented a number of financial institutions. In particular, he was involved in lawsuits focussing on fraud.  Ponora was also called to institute many proceedings; to execute securities on behalf of creditors, and against the guarantors of obligations.

He acted for numerous financial institutions in one of the most significant files in Canadian jurisprudence history involving accountant liability. He was also part of another eminent case where a plan of arrangement was contested by various institutional bondholders; at stake was several billion dollars.

Ponora has also been invited to give and/or to organize presentations on various topics involving the business conducted in Asia. On many occasions he has been invited to meet Chinese officials and Canadian Ministers to discuss the Asian business community in Canada.
