Professional Activities

Lai-King Hum joined the Toronto office of the firm as an associate in the Employment and Labour Law Group in September 2007. She is licensed to practice in both Ontario and Quebec.

Prior to joining the firm, Lai worked as bilingual counsel in the Professional Regulation Division of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Before that, she worked at prominent firms in both Quebec and Ontario where she focused on either commercial and corporate litigation or employment law.

She has appeared before both Quebec and Ontario courts, and before administrative tribunals.

In her employment and labour law practice, Lai assists corporate clients in all aspects of the employer/employee relationship, including pre-employment negotiations, difficulties arising during the employment relationship (including sexual harassment and toxic work environment claims), and the termination of that employment relationship. She is also engaged in employment law litigation and labour relations work, the development of HR policies, and advises on employment/labour aspects of transactions.

Lai also has a practice providing policy advice on professional regulation issues, particularly in relation to accreditation, licensing, and complaints, investigations and discipline, and acting as counsel on judicial reviews and appeals.

Lai is fluent in both English and French, and also speaks some Mandarin and Cantonese (Toisan).
