James Bond is a partner in the firm's Vancouver and Calgary offices where he chairs the Student Recruiting Committee and is a member of the Business Law Group.
James' practice focuses on providing tactical and pragmatic advice and services related to intellectual property protection, acquisition and exploitation, corporate and commercial transactions, privacy and technology law matters. He regularly negotiates and drafts acquisition, license, franchise, distribution, and financing agreements. He also provides strategic advice related to privacy and technology compliance. James' clients are concentrated in the technology services, biotechnology, software, franchising, service and retail sectors, and range from start-ups to major international corporations.

- Advised an international financial services provider on privacy compliance obligations in Canada.
- Advised a major American university on the privacy and copyright issues related to the acquisition of a major research collection.
- Represented a manufacturer of pure chemicals and solvents in the acquisition of a U.S.-based manufacturer of high purity inorganic elements.
- Advised a TSE company on the world-wide licensing of patents and know-how related to its targeted immunotherapy products.
- Advised a software provider on its international privacy compliance obligations.
- Represented a Crown Corporation in its negotiations with an international advertising agency for a multi-year international advertising services contract – annual spend of approximately C$18 million.
- Advised Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corporation on its acquisition of Protiva Biotherapeutics Inc., C$10 million.
- Provided counsel to Bank West in its acquisition of Ubiquity Bank.
- Acted for Western Financial Group in its acquisition of 15 locations in northern British Columbia.
- Represented Great Canadian Gaming Corp. to secure a C$200 million revolving credit facility and a US$170 million term loan and to issue US$170 million senior subordinated notes for gross proceeds of C$600 million.
- Represented INEX Pharmaceuticals in an agreement with Alnylam Pharmaceuticals to form a strategic alliance.
- Assisted Great Canadian Gaming Corp. to secure C$450 million in financing and redeem Series A & Series B Secured Notes.
- Advised Amorfix Life Sciences on it agreement with Biogen Idec to collaborate on research for ALS disease.
- Represent the underwriters (providing advice on franchising matters) in connection with the initial public offering of the A&W Royalties Income Fund (C$83.4 million).
- Acted for Port Townsend Paper Corporation in its acquisition of certain operations of Crown Packaging Ltd. (total value of divestiture - C$165 million).
- Represented Regis Corporation in its acquisition of the First Choice Haircutters franchise system, with over 400 retail outlets in Canada (C$16 million).
- Acted for Saturn Biomedical Systems during its sale to Diagnostic Ultrasound Corporation (value US$16 million).
